ICBM has capability to cross a continent and attack the enemy. I think generally 5000+ km range ballistic missile comes under this range. Other long range ballistic missile also categories in Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM), Medium Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM) and Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM).


SRBM has cover less than 1000km,MRBM cover 1000-3000km,IRBM covers 3000-5000km.Germany was the first country ,developed missile technology. They used liquid fuel . Wernher Magnus Maximilian was the father of missile technology, who design V2 rocket to attack London and other European city. As the V2 rocket was came last phase of world war second, if this came in the starting phase than there was great possibilities that axis power was the winner. Allied forces had no answer how to stop v2 rocket. After the end of the war US brought Maximilian to US to boost their missile and aerospace program and USSR brought all the German equipment and unused V2 system to Moscow and through reverse engineering develop their own ICBM.


Here one interesting thing, which I want to discuss that development of a missile program directly depend on the development of space program. Let me clear this, if a country has the capability or rocket that able to place a satellite in the space than definitely those countries capable to develop ICBM.The rocket, which used in space program can be easily used for missile program after some changes. Example US, Russia, China, India,France and Israel all have developed space program and capability to place satellite in orbit with their own rocket, on the same time only these countries posses ICBM.

North Korea also have the capacity because north Korean rocket place satellite in space .The first successful actual ICBM test done on 21 august 1957 and this come in operation from Feb. 9 ,1959.USSR had able to sent first man made satellite in space on 4 October 1957 due to the success of his ICBM R7.
MIRV (Maneuverable reentry vehicle) have the capacity to beat the missile defense system because it can attack many target on a same time .SSBM (Submarine Launching Ballistic Missile) are dangerous than normal ICBM.SSBM gives second strike capacity to any country.

One more thing that Russian new ICBM, which able to defeat US missile defense cover. The new ICBM has used better and most advance fuel technology which gives high speed compare to any missile defense cover.USA or any country have not able to beat this technology, that means if the Russia use this missile in their own missile defense cover than ,that will be most trustable defense cover. This development shows again that Russian technology ten years advance than any US, European or any other countries. There is very little information about this missile.

 India: In 2011 India show that it has k series SLBM K5, which also known as sagarika already in use with range of 1000km and other upgraded version is k6 with range of 3000km, is in development stage.

Cruise Missile is well known for high accuracy and supersonic speed with stealth capacity as it flying low which is not easy to detect by radar. Father of cruise missile was V2 rocket of Germany.Cruise Missile can be categories in Hypersonic, super sonic and subsonic.

Brahmos2:It is interesting to know that only one missile brahmos2 is able to get more than this speed and only develop by India and Russia jointly.Brahmos2 is hypersonic cruise missile with the speed of mach 7 with range of 290 km.It is expected to come in service from 2017.No other country (other than Indian shaurya missile with mach 7.5) have such high speed with stealth capacity cruise missile.
